Dear SCDDHA Dental Hygienist:
A Letter from Our President
Hello everyone! I am honored to be serving as the SCDDH President again this year. I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable summer. They go too fast in Michigan, unfortunately! As we forge ahead to our 2022-2023 schedule, there are several updates and information I’d like to pass along. COVID-19 continues to present roadblocks regarding securing face-to-face venues for our CE courses. We will be offering some face-to-face courses and some “zoom” meetings. Finding a venue for face-to-face courses has been the biggest challenge. Until further notice, our face-to-face courses will be held at Jackson College, Bert Walker Hall room 145 including our seminar on March 17, 2023. We will still have the PayPal for easy payment options. If anyone has ideas for live CE venues, feel free to reach out with your thoughts.
Review of Implicit Bias Training Requirements: Training on implicit bias is required as a condition for initial licensure or registration as well as license or registration renewal. This training is in addition to any continuing education training required for your profession.New Applicants for licensure or registration are required to have completed 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. Renewing licensees and registrants are required to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle. However, for initial renewal after June 1, 2021, licensees will only need to have 1 hour for each year since the rule’s promulgation date of June 1, 2021. For example, if you are scheduled to renew your license in August of 2022, you would only be required to have 1 hour of training, even if the length of your license was 3 years. Remember: The rule also specifically states that this training is in addition to any continuing education requirements required for renewal. Subsequent renewals will require 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of the license or registration cycle.
This website provides options for webinar training. They are reasonable and have many choices: https://michigan-implicit-bias-training.com/courses Questions? See - LARA | Michigan Bureau of Professional Licensing – Implicit Bias FAQs House of Delegates will be held live this year - October 14-15, 2022.
If anyone is interested in -reviewing the upcoming discussion on the PBY and PR's prior to HOD, I can pass the information along. We would love to relay the thoughts and opinions of our component members. As always, I urge each of you to stay active as members of ADHA, as well as MDHA (who offer a free emembership at www.mdhatoday.org) Information on our local component can be found on our Facebook page and Weebly Looking forward to gathering with all of you this upcoming year!!
